About Sandtrails

We are located in the small rural coastal Maori community of Mitimiti in the North Hokianga. This West Coast settlement is approx 80km SW of Kaitaia. It is about 12km north of the entrance to the Hokianga Harbour. It is about a 45min drive and 41km from the North terminal of the Hokianga Ferry.

Mitimiti is an area with very little employment opportunities or economic development initiatives. It is our goal to help create opportunities for ourselves and others in our community and to become a catalyst for sustainable tourism development.

In addition to our tours we have also been involved with a number of TV productions.

These include the Australian travel show “Getaway” (which featured Sandtrails Hokianga). We provided logistics and consulting services for “The Biggest Loser Australia” when an episode was filmed in the Hokianga in Feb 2010.

We recently provided services for Jam TV for their new series “North” featuring Marcus Lush.

Mitimiti is a place of immense natural beauty with dramatic land, sand and seascapes at your doorstep. It is truly a nature’s playground. It is a place of significant and unique histories and stories. It is a place few ‘tourists’ have ventured.
It is an area and story we look forward to introducing and sharing with you.
